Past Pupils’ Benevolent Fund

Objectives and Distribution Of The Fund

The fund was opened in the early 1940s to help our past pupils who find themselves in financial difficulties for whatever reason. Over the years, money from the fund has been used to alleviate hardship due to sickness, disability, accident, bereavement, unemployment or other adversity. The Past Pupils Union continues this good work into the twenty-first century and tries to reach out to our colleagues who are in need. Money is raised for the fund at various events during the year:

●   The Bridge Event

●   Union Day

●   Golf Outing

●   Annual Dinner

The funds are distributed when requests are received and their authenticity vouched for. Applications are generally made through members of the Past Pupils Union and sometimes through a member of the Sion Hill community. While the confidentiality of the recipients is honoured, the Committee of the Past Pupils Union ensures that assistance is given whatever possible.  All requests are honoured in so far as funds allow.

At present Sr. Helen McGing is acting as community representative on the Committee overseeing the distribution of funds. Your support of the benevolent fund has made a significant difference to the lives of very many former pupils. Much has been accomplished during the past seventy years by the Past Pupils Union in this worthy cause. Through Sr. Helen, the beneficiaries of the fund thank you most sincerely and appreciate always your generosity to them and in many cases, to their families.

Any past pupil in need of assistance may contact Sr Helen McGing O.P (Tel. 2886831). We appeal to any past pupil to contact Sr Helen directly should they become aware of any past pupil in need of such support. All such approaches are met with confidentiality, sensitivity and discretion.
